The War is Ending

It has been a while since I last posted and a lot has happened. After we took control of the entire Mississippi, Lincoln appointed me the General of all Union forces. I left William Sherman in charge of the Mississippi Union while I headed east. The war took an nasty turn and became a total war! No one was safe. I faced off with Lee in Virginia and since I had the numbers I could spare a few troops if it meant beating the Confederacy. I lost 60,000 men and Lee lost 32,000. Because of this Sherman could march to Georgia and make the South "sick of war". Things seem to be coming to an end and I think the South is close to surrendering.

Seige of Vicksburg

The Siege of Vicksburg was a success! Once my troops and I were stationed we bombed the city. The bombing went on for about 7 days and the Confederates finally surrendered. The official signing of the surrender was July 4. Shortly after we got a hold of Vicksburg, Port Hudson surrendered in the North. The Union now has full control of the Mississippi! Hopefully there will be some recognition for my achievements. I believe that these contributions to the war are huge. With a few more wins in the east, I believe that the South will have no other option but to surrender. This war has been devastating to both sides and we need to unite as one united country again.

Finishing up in Mississippi

It is time to end the battles in the west so I can head east and aid my fellow Union soldiers. My goal is to capture Vicksburg. I have been destroying railroads to distract the South while my real motive was to head to the capital of Mississippi, Jackson, and take control of things. Once in Jackson it took me 18 days to establish control. It wasn't easy, but we did it. Now my sights are set on Vicksburg. Right now, I have my troops mobilized and heading south of Vicksburg to attack. This is going to be a big battle and we need to stay focused. But, once I capture Vicksburg the South will be completely divided and we can get a move on finishing the completion of the Anaconda Plan.

A Rush of Positivity

News has spread of Lincoln’s amazing address at the dedication of the cemetery at Gettysburg. He stated that we need to continue to fight for the ideas that these men died for. We need to make sure that these men died for a good reason. We need to beat the South and make sure that all of these differing views on slavery are resolved. Everyone in our country should be free. That is what our country was created for! The land of the free and the home of the brave. We cannot keep living in the United States like this, the slaves need to be set free so we can truly be a nation of freedom. Too many people have died to give up. Yes, we did win the battle at Gettysburg but over 20,000 men lost their lives and we need to make sure that these men did not die for nothing.

Battle of Gettysburg

I have heard news of big fights in the East. The Confederates have supposedly beat the Union in battles at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. But, I have also heard news of a tremendous victory for the Union in Gettysburg. General Meade faced off with General Lee in a new setting, the North. The Confederates felt confident enough to change from a defensive position to offensive. This was obviously a bad move, Lee lost about 25,000 men. The South was winning the battle for a little while, but Meade stood his ground and was able to push back the Confederate troops. Lee gave up his hopes of invading the North and he is on his way back to Virginia now. I feel as if this battle could be a turning point in the war. The hopes of the South have gone down and I feel as if they are tired of fighting. Hopefully we can resolve our problems soon.

Emancipation Proclamation

McClellan and Lee fought at Antietam the other day and people say it was an extremely bloody battle. It ended in a draw and Lincoln fired McClellan. It was about time though; McClellan was causing more harm than good in the war. President Lincoln presented the Emancipation Proclamation today. It stated that all slaves were free in the confederate states and that slaves could enlist in the army. His reasoning for this was to keep the Union together, but not end slavery all at once. Slaves were technically property and the government is allowed to take away their opponents supplies in a war. So it was completely legal for the Union to take and free many of the Confederate slaves. So far I have seen a lot of different reactions to this proclamation. The South is angry and felt antagonized while the North was rooting for this proclamation to take effect. According to Lincoln it would become a law in January 1863.

War Update

The war has still been dragging on. The Union still has the upper hand, but the Confederates have been standing their ground. I received news that McClellan was his usual self and took too long to take over Richmond, and lost the battle. He really needs to clean up his act or he will find himself fired. His opponent, General Lee, is one of the best Confederate leaders and it would have been hard for anyone to beat him and his troops. From what I have heard Lee is very open minded and decisive. We seem very much alike. I bet it would be a great battle if he and I went head to head.  I have also of heard news of the South trying to take an offensive stance on DC. The east really needs to clean up their act or much more blood will be shed.
