Today, I was informed of some good news! My fellow West
Point graduate, George McClellan, informed me that I have been appointed the
General of the War in the west. With my expertise from battling in the
Mexican-American War, this should be a breeze. Not to toot my own horn, but I
have been told by many government officials that my ability to think on my feet
and see the big picture are a big advantage to the North. McClellan has briefed
me on General Scott's plan which I believe has the potential to be very successful. It has
been named “The Anaconda Plan”. The first part of the strategy is to block the
Southern ports, making it difficult for the South to receive aid from allies.
The second part is to control the Mississippi, dividing the South. And the
third part is to capture the Confederate capital Richmond, VA. I believe that
if we accomplish these three tasks, we can beat the Confederate Army in no time.
